Winona Laura Horowitz, professionally referred to as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named their daughter in honor of her hometown. His father Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder is a Jew. Ryder believes that her father had an ethnically Jewish origin. The actress has also a half-sister named Sunyata Jubal. Her younger sibling is Uria. Ryder's family moved from Mendocino County to California when she was 7 years old. The family was in a house that didn't have electricity. Ryder became an avid reading book because there was no television. Ryder, then 12, was enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. Lucas The film from 1986 which was her first big part. Ryder was just 15 at the time she was cast. Ryder had to deal with bullying throughout her high school years. She hoped acting could bring change. However, that didn't happen. Still, she kept chasing her dreams. Beetlejuice which was a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first major break. Ryder continued to play successful roles in a variety of films. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated for Academy Awards. One of was for her performance In The Age of Innocence.
